Winner!

The girl who wanted to make a difference!

There once lived a girl named Rachel whose dream was to make a difference in the world, but she had a special place in her heart to make a difference in China. Rachel’s parents always told her to pursue her dream, but she never thought she ever could. Rachel thought, “Who am I that someone like me could ever make a difference in the world, but most importantly to her in China”. All Rachel thought of herself was a little girl who could never make a difference in China. Her parents knew that she was a little girl, but she had a big heart for people in China. Her parents told her that she is making a difference in the community, but Rachel thought that wasn’t enough. Rachel often told her parents that she would give up everything to make a difference.
As Rachel grew older she wanted to make a difference in China even more and more every day. She prayed every night that she would be able to get enough money to go and her dream got answered one day. Rachel told parents and her parents knew that this day would come. When she arrived and took a cab to her hotel along the way she saw families living in prosperity she felt that her heart had broken into one million pieces. Rachel settled herself in the hotel and she started thinking about how grateful she was to have all she has. She went to sleep and the next day she started to make friends with the people and helped them try to live better lives. She got some of them jobs to support their family. She really thought that she was making a true difference there.
Then Rachel decided to sell some of her stuff so that she could build a house and have families who don’t have a home live there. Rachel decided that she would try to get the man from each family a job. Her parents sold her stuff for her and she built a 3 story house with help of family and friends donations. As she lived there for 4 years she met an American man named Jake who was really close to her friends and he asked if he could help. He had lived there for 6 years so he said that he could get the men jobs while she cooked. And she said yes, she was sure glad that he offered to get them jobs because cooking, cleaning, and getting the men jobs was really hard for her to do at the same time. The women helped her cook and clean. While the men went looking for jobs so that one day they could support themselves and their families on their own. Rachel also really wanted to give the kids an education, but she had no time. Then one day she went out to the market and met American women named April and her boyfriend named Andrew. Rachel asked April if she would be willing to be a school teacher and she said yes. Rachel then asked Andrew if he would be willing to help Jake find jobs for the men and he also agreed.
Then one day Jake proposed to Rachel and Andrew proposed to April and they had their weddings on the same day. The families threw a big surprise party for them for everything they did for them and for having them all at their wedding. Jake, Rachel, April, and Andrew were all best friends with each other and the families, but they all felt like they were all one big family.

The Aquatic Adventure

"I never wanted to be this way" I told my best friend, Emma. "You were lucky to have made it out alive" She told me. "Yes but the side affects almost killed me" I retorted. "But they didn't, did they?" Emma snapped. "I'm sorry I just never thought something so strange would happen." I answered, completely baffled by my appearance. "You had no choice, now you must live with the fact you are a mermaid." "Shhh..." I whispered "Someone could here you" "Sorry" she whispered back. "I just want to be normal" I cried. "Don't worry" She said, as she patted my hand. "We'll find a way to change you back"

The next day my mom took my to the mall to look for shoes. "Too bad the mermaids don't wear shoes" I muttered. "What?" asked my mom. "Nothing!" I responded. I couldn't tell her...yet, I had to wait.

The way you because a mermaid is quite simple really, just say "pipinhab" and be seen by a human in 15 minutes. When you change into a mermaid you loose the ability to breath air, making it hard for humans to see you. If you are seen you can be a human on land and fish in the sea. I was seen by a fisherman named Paul.

"One day I was swimming in the ocean and I found this" I told Emma. It's a pearl that says "If you want to be changed see the great Zari of the sea arch" "Cool" said Emma "Too bad I can't come with you." "Yeah you can" I said slyly "Say it" "Pipinhab" She whispered Instantly her legs glowed with a magic sparkle, and when it faded she had a beautiful orange fin. "Can't breath" she choked out. Just then my little brother Tommy entered the room. "Wow Emma, I love your costume!" He yelled. "Ummm.... Tommy get out" I said. I knew she was about to change back. The minute he left the room she changed into a human. "That was close" I said "That almost killed you"

The next day Emma and i set off to find Zari of the sea arch. We saw so much. It was amazing, we saw dolphins, sea turtles, jelly fish, lobsters, crabs, clams and shining sliver fish "Wow" said Emma "How could you want to change?" "I can't go to pool parties" I said "Well I think it's beautiful down here" She breathed. "Well I think Peters pool party is much more important" I snapped. "How are we best friends?" She asked. "We are so different" "Hey" I said "Don't talk like that, We pinky promised we would be best friend forever" "Yeah true"

The next day we found Zari's tunnel, as we swam in we noticed simile faces all over the place. "Strange" I thought. When we saw Zari I thought "He he midget" She turned and faced us. She was maybe 3" 6'. "Well, well guests" She said. "What can I do to for you?" "We would like to become human" We said at the same time. "Well all you have to do is not enter water for 24 hours and you should be cured." "Oh come on, the longest I've been out of water is 23 hours, not cool at all" I said. Emma and Zari laughed.

The next day we avoided the water and at 5:17 we both collapsed and the mermaid spirit inside us left. "Wow i said "That was totally amazing." I'm going to miss the vast oceans" Emma said. "Well I'm going to miss my hair brush" I joked. "But really, It's still down there." Then we both laughed, just like the good old days!

Untitled

“Katie, get to class, you can’t be late to history again.” I nodded in reply to Mr. Faylee, upset that I would have to read my text messages later. I trudged off to history, but when I winged around the left corner a little too fast I ended up smacking into Jason. We both fell backwards and landed hard, but even through the pain, we couldn’t help but laugh.

“Hi, Bubbles.” Jason sneered at my nickname with a huge grin on his face as he sat on the floor across from me.

“Hi, Klutz.” I dramatized big eyed and giggled as I started to collect the books that fell out of my bag from the collision. Jason managed to stand up and offered me his hand and helped me up.

“You wouldn’t have to call me Klutz if you stopped running into me, you know.” Jason stated matter-of-factly smiling at me.

“It’s your nickname; you must be the one running into me,” I answered blissfully, feeling like I won. “Now I need to get to history or I’m dead!” I finished, slinging my bag over my shoulder and waving goodbye.

“Later.” replied Jason as he stepped around me and walked away.

Welcome to Tellinski Prep Middle School or as I like to call it, T.P. Middle. Everyone here gets a nickname, if you’re cool you get a good one, if your not… well that doesn’t really matter. Lucky for me, I’m invisible, so my nickname is Bubbles, since they’re clear and all. I know it’s kind of lame, but that’s because you haven’t gotten your nickname yet.

Nothing much happened in history class, the teacher called on me, I answered incorrectly, and then she called on Meg (aka: smarties), she got it right. Happens everyday, Meg always turns around and gives me a sympathetic look, but I just shrug my shoulders and force a smile.

After history comes science, a class I dread but somehow manage to do well in. I almost hurled when it came time to dissect the owl pellets, I was politely excused from the room and I spent a good ten minutes in the bathroom trying to recollect myself. After science comes my favorite time of the day, lunch. I was relieved to give my hand a break from writing so much. I stood impatiently in line for what seemed like hours as I listened to my stomach growl while I inhaled the greasy aroma coming from ahead of me. The food was unhealthy and disgusting, but no one really complain because they are so hungry when it comes time for lunch.

When I sat down at my table with a steaming plate of who knows what I attacked my food before I even said a word to my friends.

“Nice to see you, too.” Livie giggled as she watched me stuff food in my mouth. I gulped it down with milk and returned her smile, and then I looked at my friend Coffee, that’s her nickname because she is always so energetic.

“So how did you do on that Geometry quiz you were freaking out over?” I tried sounding enthusiastic, not really caring but trying to fill the silence.

“95%, okay I guess.” She answered. Coffee is smart; don’t get me wrong, but that it the best score she has gotten in a while.

“Okay? Please, you know you’re siked, admit it!” SkitTles practically yelled, making some people turn their heads toward our table. Honestly, I have no idea why one of her t’s are bigger than the other, but that’s how she spells her name and we never try to argue with her.

“Um, SkitTles. Speak up, I don’t think the Mar’s rover heard you.” I told her calmly.

“Speaking of the Mar’s rover, my birthday party is tomorrow and I was wondering if you guys were sleeping over.” Livie asked.

“I know I failed in common sense, but what does that have to do with the Mar’s rover?” Coffee replied with a smile.

“Absolutely nothing. I just needed a way to bring it up,” Livie answered her cheerfully. “So can you guys come?” she finished by shoving apple sauce in her mouth.

“Sure, why not.” I said, then looked at the others, they both nodded. All four of us together, the way it should be. I finally started to relax, enjoying the break. I suddenly remember the text message sent to me before history and I started to pull out my phone, but then the bell rang. We all got up reluctantly and headed off to our next class.

My next class was spanish, where I sat in front of Jason and we passed notes back and forth out of total boredom. Our spanish teacher is so oblivious, kids get away with eating and talking and paper airplanes across the room when she isn't looking. Spanish is definately one of my favorite classes. Jason was already there when I arrived, and he already had a paper and pencil out and was writing. As I hung my backpack on my chair Jason handed my the note, now folded into a small square.
"What? I don't even get a hi now?" I joked with a huge smile on my face.
"Nope, but u get a nice piece of lined paper, congratulations!" Jason exclaimed sarcastically. I laughed, took the paper and sat down. I opened the paper slowly and quietly, to make sure our teacher wouldn't notice as she continued to talk about last night's homework.
"How was your day so far?" I read quickly as I took out my pencil.
"Okay I guess, I'm so tired!" I replied and sneakily slipped it through the slits in the back of the chair. He dropped his pencil and he bent down to retrieve it and he snatch the paper with his pencil at the same time.
Yeah, me too. You do the homework last night?"
"Of course I did. And of course you didn't! The pencil drop? LAME!"
"I tied my shoe this time, content? You get my text?"
"Nope, I never found time to read it. What did it say?"
"Read the message and you'll know, lazy!" He added a little smiley that made my heart flutter. What could the text be about? I tried to act normal, but I was dying to now what it said. Jason didn't text me that much, so every word was crucial to me.
"A hint? Pretty please with a cherry on top? Come on, you can't say no the the CHERRY!!!"
"Hmmm..... NO." He seemed to be pleased with himself, like he enjoyed watching me suffer. The curiousity got the best of me, so I slipped my phone in my pocket and raised my hand to go to the bathroom. I probably had my hand up for five minutes, and I could hear a little snicker from behind me. I ignored Jason, pleading that the teacher would turn around and see me. She finally did and she looked in my direction.
"Yes?" she asked, sounding a little embarrassed that she didn't see my hand before. I opened my mouth to ask if I could go to the bathroom, but someone beat me to it.
"Can I go to the bathroom?" I whirled around, with a furious look on my face. Jason was the one who asked before me, he was planning to occupy the only bathroom so I couldn't read his text message. He had an innocent look on his face, and in my head I screamed faker.
"Sure." She said, and Jason got up. I shot him my your dead look, but he gave a dramatic smile and hurried off to the bathroom. He spent a very long time in there, probably stalling until class was over. Jason finally walked out and took a seat, looking as proud as ever.
"Oh, and Katie? You can't go to the bathroom, the toliet is accidently clogged.” Jason whispered and winked at me. I tried to look irate, forcing down my smile and laughter, but who could stay mad at someone so perfect?
